Vintage 9-Shot Target Plinker: H&R Model 939 “Ultra Sidekick” – .22 LR w/ Holster
For decades, Harrington & Richardson (H&R) produced rugged, reliable, and uniquely designed firearms that served as the backbone for American trappers, farmers, and casual target shooters. The H&R Model 939—often branded as the “Ultra Sidekick” or “Premier Target”—is widely considered one of the finest double-action revolvers the company ever manufactured.
Offering an impressive 9-shot capacity in .22 Long Rifle, this revolver stands out immediately due to its distinctive 6-inch flat-sided “slab” barrel and ventilated top rib, giving it the aggressive profile of a much heavier target gun. Equipped with fully adjustable rear target sights and oversized, thumb-rest walnut grips, the 939 was designed to be a highly accurate small-game devastating machine. Packaged with a classic leather field holster, this vintage 9-shooter is a fantastic, affordable alternative to high-priced target revolvers and a incredibly fun piece of blue-collar American gunsmithing.

Condition Report
This H&R Model 939 is a previously owned, vintage sporting revolver. It displays the honest cosmetic character of a field gun that has seen legitimate outdoor use, but it remains a solid and mechanically sound shooter.
-
Finish: Retains approximately 80-85% of its original factory bluing. Because it has been carried in a leather holster, there is expected finish thinning and silvering along the sharp edges of the slab-sided barrel, the muzzle, and the cylinder. The bluing has naturally transitioned to a slightly muted patina in high-handling areas, but there is no active, deep rust.
-
Bore: Very Good to Excellent. As is common with rimfire revolvers that were properly maintained, the bore remains bright with sharp, intact rifling and no heavy pitting.
-
Grips: The oversized checkered walnut target grips are structurally sound. There are standard field dings, light scratches, and softening of the checkering from use, but no major structural cracks or splits.
-
Mechanics: The DA/SA action functions exactly as designed. Cylinder lockup is solid, and the swing-out cylinder releases smoothly. The 9-shot timing is correct, and the single-action trigger break is surprisingly crisp for an H&R.
